Our Studio

GARRY

I made the decision to write this section in the first person. Primarily because working with the studio means you will work with me.

MY BACKGROUND

I have worked in the Interior Design industry since 2004 and have been very fortunate to work in some incredible businesses, David Collins, Fox Linton, Benchmark Furniture and Sims Hilditch to name a few. Each business I have worked at has offered me a great learning experience and shaped my own understanding of what makes a space well considered.

WHAT THIS MEANS TO YOU

How my experience manifests itself in your own project is the exciting part. The result should be a reflection of the owners, the building and the function it serves, be it a home or commercial entity. The outcome should be joyful, it should FEEL great, be a pleasurable space to be in and this is where a good designer will add value. They will listen and interpret your brief and offer a design solution that is all of the above. That’s what I enjoy and I endeavour to take my clients on the journey with me.

ABOUT US

Garry Meakins Studio is an Interior Design Practice based in the Cotswolds. We work with individual clients and businesses throughout the UK & Europe to create original interiors, furniture, lighting and products.

BELIEFS

In equal measure we believe in:

CREATIVITY Each brief is unique, so should be the outcome.

DILIGENCE Without diligence creativity is an un-tameable beast.

EXPERIENCE Without experience we cannot be diligent nor can we implement creativity.

Above all else, we are dedicated to excellence.

WHAT WE DO FOR CLIENTS

We love analogies, they help demystify an industry of smoked glass and gilded mirrors.

An analogy: The orchestra

Our role as designer is like that of the conductor. You, the client, are our audience.

The song: Beginning with understanding your favourite composer / singer and symphony or track is comparable to taking the brief.

The musicians: The suppliers, specialists, materials and products we select are chosen specifically to play the song you want to hear.

The rehearsals: The build phase, each member of the orchestra reads the score and performs its part, working with the rest of the orchestra.

The performance: Move-in day, the combined work of the conductor, orchestra and audience.

The conductor: Your designer keeps all of the above in time, maintaining a steady rhythm ensuring continuity through each of the phases from start to finish.

HOW WE WORK

First and foremost, we listen. In fact we have a discussion. At the core of every project is a brief that is the touch paper. During the briefing stage understanding the clients history, ethos and goals is critical. Enhancing this brief is our role.

Communicating our design is important. Very important. As a project develops, we must accurately and clearly communicate our thoughts to the client. Running side by side, our methods of communication are verbal, written, visual and numeric. Choosing the best method allows clients to commit with ease, not become overwhelmed and ultimately be excited to see the outcome.
