COATES LODGE, PLYMOUTH gin

dining+room+render.jpg

Nestled in the heart of Plymouth Gin Distillery is a 2 bedroom cottage. Plymouth Gin invited Garry Meakins Studio to create an interior for this that captured the imagination of its visitors, telling the rich story of over two hundred years of Gin making in Plymouth. Coates Lodge, named after one of the three founders who established Plymouth Gin in 1793, celebrates craft and makers throughout the South West of England. Bedrooms lined in felted wool, from Dartmoor, illuminated ceramic friezes, from Cornwall, and handwoven willow fences, from Exeter, were all incorporated into this small but perfectly formed lodge house. On the ground floor a small demonstration bar was designed alongside perfumed dioramas set within miniature exploration cases inspired by Kew Gardens. These highlighted the trading routes and locations throughout the world Thomas Coates visited in his pursuit of world class ingredients, the botanicals. A gloss Sloe red kitchen was set at the rear of the property through to a courtyard garden filled with handwoven willow fences, the panels were shaped like the waves in the Atlantic ocean, its inky blue depths gently nipping at the foundations of the distillery.
